Information for Prior Property Owners
What you need to know if your property has been sold through tax sale
At Viking Investments, we understand that life circumstances can sometimes lead to missed property tax payments. If your property was sold at a tax sale and is now listed on our site, please know that our first priority is always to return title to the prior owner—whenever possible.
We want to provide clear information and options if you are a former property owner whose property may now be under our ownership.
Why Your Property Was Sold
When property taxes become seriously delinquent, the county or municipality may auction off a tax lien on the property to recover unpaid taxes. If the lien is not redeemed within the 2-year redemption period (in Mississippi), the lien holder may be awarded ownership through a tax deed.
In some cases, Viking Investments becomes the legal owner of the property through this process.
What Viking Does Before Taking Ownership
Before selling any tax deed property:
-
We make reasonable efforts to contact and provide notice to the original owner.
-
We allow full opportunity for the redemption process to take place.
-
We comply with all applicable state laws and notice requirements.
Can You Still Reclaim the Property?
If your property has been sold and a tax deed issued, it may still be possible—depending on timing and legal factors—for you to assert a claim. If you believe your property was improperly conveyed or that you did not receive proper notice:
-
We recommend contacting a qualified attorney familiar with tax deed laws in Mississippi.
-
You may also reach out to our office to open a respectful dialogue. In some cases, mutual resolution or transfer agreements may be possible.
